Nathan's Hot Dogs Eating Contest 2012


Joey Chestnut won his sixth straight Fourth of July hot dog-eating contest at Coney Island, downing 68 hot dogs and buns, beating his previous best of 62 hot dogs which he consumed to snatch the title last year.

The 28-year-old San Jose, Calif., man bested his main rival this year by 16 dogs, gobbling down all 68 hot dogs in 10 minutes to take home $10,000 and the mustard yellow belt. Second place went to Tim Janus of New York with 52 hot dogs, who received $5,000. Third place went to Patrick Bertoletti of Chicago with 51, who won $2,500.

Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest is held every year on July 4 at Nathan's Famous Corporation's original, and best-known restaurant at the corner of Surf and Stillwell Avenues in Coney Island, a neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. The contest has been a city tradition for 97 years. The contest is so popular that is beamed live on ESPN and estimated to be watched by 1.949 million viewers in addition to the 40,000 or so spectators that assemble at the ground to gawk
